Trudi Canavan Writers Workshop – That Got Your Attention

Our guest of honour Trudi Canavan will be running a short (2 hour) writers workshop during unCONventional called “That Got Your Attention”.

How do you get the reader hooked from the first word and keep them reading until the last page without sacrificing the detail, grand scope and vision so loved in fantasy and science fiction? Trudi will show you ways to add tension to your writing, and work out the most relevant information to deliver about your characters and settings – and when – without slowing down the pace.

Places on this workshop are strictly limited. Full members of the convention will be allocated places on a first come-first served basis. If you wish to participate, please drop us a line.

Guest of Honour: Trudi Canavan

UnCONventional is thrilled to announce that Author/Artist/Chocolate lover Trudi Canavan has agreed to be our international guest of honour.

Trudi lives in Melbourne, Australia. She has been making up stories about people and places that don’t exist for as long as she can remember. Her first short story, “Whispers of the Mist Children”, received an Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Short Story in 1999. Soon after, her bestselling Black Magician Trilogy was published, followed by another trilogy, Age of the Five. In 2006 she was offered a seven-figure advance to write the prequel and sequel to the Black Magician Trilogy. The prequel, The Magician’s Apprentice won the Aurealis Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 2009. Earlier this year (2011) Trudi’s UK publishers announced that her sales had passed the one millon books mark in their region.
